Born in Brisbane in 1963, Todd Whisson is the son of prominent artist Eric Whisson. Having established himself as a framer in 1980, Whisson began painting seriously in 1985.
He became fascinated by French impressionism while travelling through Europe. Back in Australia he pursued his fascination and developed a passion for the alla prima Plein Air approach.
He worked under the guidance of such artists as Dale Marsh, Herman Pekel, Kasey Sealy and Robert Simpson. Whisson has travelled and painted extensively throughout Australia with Sealy.
Whissons’ recent work has developed markedly, taking an abstract approach which continues to reflect his skill in traditional techniques yet has enabled him to communicate more than a visual representation, and has elevated his passion and vision to another level of skill and perception.
A collection of works are represented in galleries and private and corporate collections in Australia and internationally.
Todd is heading towards his final year to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degreeat the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).
